Perkinson, Alvin P. "Bun"Alvin P. "Bun" Perkinson, a graduate of Davidson College, has enjoyed professional careers in both business and higher education, including 12 years as President of St. Andrews Presbyterian College. During his tenure, enrollment increased by 50%, yearly gift income and endowment levels nearly doubled, and in 1978 the college received its first million-dollar gift. Previously, he was the chief advancement officer at Millsaps College, administering all fund-raising, public relations and student recruitment programs; and, the chief development officer at Rhodes College. At St. Andrews, Perkinson established a for-profit subsidiary to transform idle, surplus land into income-producing assets by means of a shopping center, medical offices, single and multi-family residential area. Perkinson was named North Carolina Boss of the Year and served on the NCAA Council. The North Carolina Governor, Jim Martin, appointed him as a member of the Southern Growth Policies Board and as Chairman of the NC 2000 Committee to establish goals for the state’s schools. |
