Tierney, John

John Tierney has nearly 20 years experience in interactive marketing and corporate development, with a recent focus in higher education. At Arizona State University, John oversaw the Corporate Relations department at the W. P. Carey School of Business generating millions in philanthropic gifts and developing innovative co-marketing programs. He also helped recruit international companies to a new research park, facilitating technology partnerships between startup companies and the university.

Prior to philanthropy and higher education, John worked in the internet technology arena, namely at AOL Time Warner Inc. where his clients included Fortune 500 computer, retail and technology companies. He has also been involved in strategy and product development at a web conferencing company (iLinc Communications) and a leading search engine marketing agency (iCrossing). John began his professional career as a legislative aide for Kentucky congressman Ron Mazzoli in the U.S. House of Representatives.

For the last ten years, John has been as an adjunct professor at several universities, teaching marketing and business ethics courses in both a classroom and online environment. John has an undergraduate degree in Business/Marketing from the University of Kentucky and an M.A. in Public Relations from the University of Maryland. After graduate studies at Indiana University's Center on Philanthropy, John joined Global Advancement in 2003.
